TRCA Spotlight - Falling Like Leaves

 

When Ellis’ parents separate, she is moved from the bustle of New York City to the charming Bramble Falls. Despite its charm it’s full of distractions like Ellis’ onetime best friend and first kiss – Cooper Barnett.

Then there is the festival that’s run by her aunt. As great as the festival is, Ellis doesn’t want to be roped into the planning and dragged to each event. Ellis has big city dreams.

But the longer she stays in Bramble Falls, the harder it is to pretend she’s not falling for this town and the people in it. Ellis is forced to confront what she wants for her future and what that means for her present.

TRCA Spotlight - Everything is Poison

 

For as long as she can remember, Carmela Tofana has wanted to be part of La Tofana’s, her mother’s apothecary in Rome. Now 16, Carmela is finally allowed. Here she witnesses her mother and two assistants craft remedies for customers. But for every sweet-smelling flower extract potion, there’s another requiring darker ingredients.  

This is a story of a deadly secret hiding in plain sight and the women who risk everything to provide care for those with nowhere else to turn.

TRCA Spotlight - Joe and the Wreck of the Tribune

Joe works hard all day and dreams of becoming a fisherman with his own boat, but fate sends a larger catch his way when the HMS Tribune hits the rocks of Herring Cove cliffs in a storm. Can Joe save any of them, or even himself?

This historical fiction that was inspired by the real 18th century shipwreck off Halifax Harbor and the local boy that risks his life to try and save those on board.

TRCA Spotlight - Shackled: A Tale of Wronged Kids, Rogue Judges, and A Town That Looked Away

In the post-Columbine era, many believed that kids and teens needed hard discipline to keep them on the straight and narrow. However, as more and more young people were receiving shocking sentences for minor offenses a disturbing pattern of corruption and lies surfaced.

This is the true story of corrupt judges designing a "Kids for Cash" scheme that sent more than 2400 children and teens to a for-profit detention center.

Family Literacy Day Draw

There are some great books and gift cards from Indigo Books to be won! Any students interested in taking part in the Family Literacy Draw please give your name and homeroom number to Ms. Perigo in the library. All names should be received by Feb. 23rd. Draw to take place Feb. 24th.
